UN Security Council finds the time to be "gravely concerned"

Yet again the United Nations is worried, deeply worried. This time it's due to Iran's provocative act of war when it crossed into Iraqi waters and took off with 15 British sailors. From the BBC:
The UN Security Council has agreed a statement voicing "grave concern" at Iran's capture of 15 British sailors.

It also calls on Tehran to allow the UK consular access to the personnel, but stops short of "deploring" Iran's action, as requested by the UK.

...The UK failed to win support for a stronger statement deploring Iran's actions, following opposition led by Russia.

Iran's UN mission said in a statement: "This case can and should be settled through bilateral channels. "The British government's attempt to engage third parties, including the Security Council, with this case is not helpful."
The Iranian regime must be quaking in its boots. Imagine how much scarier it would have been for them if the Security Council had have "deplored" what they'd done? They clearly have little fear of the UN. Aren't those Russians a helpful lot? Why would they lead the opposition to Britain?

What other acts around the world have animated the United Nations to become gravely concerned? Here's a small sample:

UN Security Council
2006: Israel's actions to deal with terrorists operating from the Gaza Strip
2006: Sudan's decision not to renew contract with Norwegian Refugee Council

2006: Ivory Coast's serious delays in disarming and demobilising
2000: The Taliban's military activities in Afghanistan
UN International Labour Organisation
2005: Myanmar's forced labour programs
UN High Commission for Refugees
2005: Attack on a Sudanese refugee camp by 'armed Arab men' killing 29
What have all of these expressions of grave concern achieved? Terrorists still operate in the Gaza Strip (which makes sense given they run the place), the genocide continues apace in Sudan, the Ivory Coast rebels are still going strong, Myanmar continues its forced labour program and it took US intervention to deal with the Taliban after 9/11.

If you go to the UN's website and do a search for "grave concern" then you get 10,300 results. Ten THOUSAND! If you add "Israel" into the equation then you get 4,510 results. Do people seriously think that tiny Israel constitutes nearly half of the problems in the world that the UN should be gravely concerned about?

Yet again, the UN demonstrates itself to be a feckless, worthless waste of time. The sooner a competing body constituting only democratic nations the better off the world will be.
