Virginia Tech Shooting

I don't need to post any of the details of the tragedy that took place at Virginia Tech this morning. Our thoughts go out to the many, many families and friends of those whose lives were taken.

I will make a few predictions, though.

• Somehow, people will find a way to blame George W Bush
• There will be yet more demands for gun control. People seem to forget that the most dangerous cities in the Western world are those with the strictest controls (and I'm not a pro-gun advocate).
• Michael Moore will make a documentary on it, blaming the above

Seriously, though, what were the campus police thinking? The management of the situation makes Ray Nagin's disaster in New Orleans look like it was handled with the precision of a Swiss watchmaker. There's more to come on that front, for sure.

Apparently, the gunman left behind a note according to this report:

Anger and grief gripped the campus of Virginia Tech University on Tuesday as police identified the gunman behind the deadliest school shooting in US history as a South Korean student "loner."

Monday's rampage at the university in southwestern Virginia, which left more than 30 people dead, was carried out by Cho Seung-Hui, 23, an English major at Virginia Tech, police said.

The Chicago Tribune newspaper and ABC News reported that Cho had left behind a note in his dormitory in which he railed against "rich kids."

"You caused me to do this," he wrote in the several-page-long note that railed against "debauchery" and "deceitful charlatans."

So he's angry at "rich kids" and railing against "debauchery" and "deceitful charlatans", is he? OK. The general consensus of opinion is that he was a troubled guy with some unhinged and, basically, anti-US society views. Nobody will excuse what he did and that's exactly how it should be.

I have a question, though. How is his view fundamentally different to the Islamist terrorists that the Left excuses as a matter of course?
