Midnight Oil really is one of the greatest of Aussie rock 'n' roll bands. Formed in the late 70s, they had a long career before disbanding about three years ago. They're the band I've seen the most live in concert and they were great every time. Politically, they're somewhere to the left of Chairman Mao and their lyrics are typical of the juvenile, immature level of serious thought that has passed for leftist 'intellectualism' for the last half century.
Lead singer, Peter Garrett, is now a member of our opposition Labor Party as its Environment spokesman. So far, he has demonstrated a spectacular lack of aptitude for the hurly-burly of political life and is often caught short on his facts. As a politician, he's a great rock 'n' roll singer!
I wonder if it ever annoys bands like this that those of us on the political right like their music? I hope so. Maybe they're naive enough to think that they can change people's opinions. Who knows? Enjoy some of their best...

Yet another gifted rock-and-roller turns clueless politician. Amazing how seldom the advice "Stick to what you do best" is completely disregarded, isn't it?
Too true, Francis. The other issue for Garrett is that he doesn't seem to put in the hard work required to be an effective MP so is regularly caught out when asked even the most basic of questions about detail.
